Rainbow PUSH has been in the forefront of the national policy debate from the latter part of the 20 th Century to the present. The Rainbow PUSH Public Policy Institute will focus on influencing progressive public policy, toward political, economic, and social justice for workers, women, and people of color throughout America. In the best tradition of our organizational and inspirational founder, Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., the Public Policy Institute employs the pen and the picket to achieve equitable public policy. After all, Dr. King led the national march to justice by connecting protest to policy and civic engagement to constructive change.
In Washington and beyond, the Policy Institute forms coalitions of state, county, and municipal lawmakers across the nation to increase effective public policy, particularly in the American south which has the richest soil, and the poorest people, starving for equal opportunity and equal protection under the law.
Likewise, the Policy Institute monitors legislation affecting industries important to the Rainbow PUSH Wall Street Project to include financial services, telecommunications, automobile manufacturing, information technology, entertainment and commodities, while influencing access to capital, social justice, and peace issues globally. To convey complex legislative issues plainly to the people via television, radio and the internet and church services in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Rainbow PUSH chapters at Howard University and Prince Georges, MD help to act on issues.
The Institute hosts a weekly community meeting with area residents on social justice issues.
The Institute contains the Rainbow PUSH International Affairs Department and Telecommunications Project. In addition, regular forums are held at the office on policy issues critical to workers, people of color, and women such as telecommunications, labor, international affairs, education, and business development.
