BP shakeup continues, top exec to retire, fuels chief job eliminated
Ross J. Pillari, president of BP ’s U.S. operations, is on the way out after 35 years with the company. The 55-year-old exec has been reassigned to “special projects,” BP says. He is expected to retire next July. Pillari is being replaced by 54-year-old Robert A. Malone, who will be based in Houston. His previous jobs include responsibility for BP’s oil and natural gas tanker fleet and CEO of the Alyeska Pipeline Co., operator of the Trans Alaska Oil Pipeline. BP says Pillari’s departure plans are not linked in any way to the blast at the company’s Texas City, Tex., refinery that led to the death of 15 workers and government fines of $21.4 million, or to racial discrimination charges made by marketer Ayob "Joe" Mamo (OE 06/19/06). Mamo recently deposed 11 BP execs, including CEO Lord John Browne, Pillari, Group Retail VP Mark Noetzel, and U.S. Fuels Chief John Melo.
