Civil rights museum telethon raises nearly $100,000

GREENSBORO — Helen Duncan hung up the telephone with a $250 pledge.

“They’re excited — they want to help,” the retired register of deeds worker said of her biggest pledge an hour into her shift during Wednesday’s Juneteenth telethon in the lobby of the International Civil Rights Center & Museum.

Upstairs, N.C. A&T students Courtney Matthews and Chelsey Batts texted and tweeted the latest celebrity sighting, with the posts showing up on a big screen monitor.
