Gun shop owner withdraws application for shooting range

The controversial request by a Lincolnwood gun shop to relocate and open a firing range was withdrawn Thursday afternoon, and its owner is considering options that include leaving the village it has called home for more than half a century.

Earlier this year, Shore Galleries applied for a special-use permit and other zoning provisions to move from its Devon Avenue location to a light-manufacturing building at 6950 Central Park Ave. to allow for a 15-lane shooting range.

The request appeared headed for denial at an Oct. 2 Village Board meeting, with a majority of trustees previously voicing opposition to the plan. It had also ignited opposition from some area business owners about noise and from residents over the land's half-mile proximity to a public school campus and public parks.
