We were reminded yesterday that not every gruesome murder takes place in the United States. In South Africa, Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee who ran in the Olympics and became a global sport sensation, was charged with murdering his girlfriend. The early rumors were that he had shot her by accident, mistaking her for an intruder. But it was quickly revealed that there had been a number of domestic incidents at that address. “It is a big shock for everyone,” Hennie Kotze, a former coach, told the New York Times.
