Rev. Jackson urges Trump NOT to Rescind DACA Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 3, 2017

Leave DACA Alone

A statement by Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.

CHICAGO – The lives and dreams of 800,000 young people—college students, writers, scientists, and members of the military—hang in the balance.

That is a shame. They have done nothing but contribute to American society.

I am urging President Trump to do the right thing and leave DACA –Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals—alone and in place.

To rescind DACA, commonly called the “Dreamers” program, would be cruel, unnecessary, wrong, and it would undermine the moral authority of America in the world. We need to create pathways to citizenship not walls and rejection.

In most cases, the DACA recipients were brought to the United States as young children and know no other country. America is their home.

They are not criminals. They have passed all of the federal background checks and either have legally secured work permits or are in school.

The impact of President Trump’s controversial immigration plan will be devastating to families and countries including Mexico, Haiti and the Caribbean.  We ask that the Dreamers and their families be allowed to remain in the U.S.
