Rev. Jesse Jackson Commends the Life of Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua

CHICAGO (May 6, 2010)--I was deeply saddened to learn about the death of His Excellency Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. There are so many things on earth we simply can’t explain – why some of us are taken, while the rest of us remain. But till the day we see the Lord and He makes all things clear, we must find comfort knowing that His love is ever near.

During this sad and difficult moment in the lives of all those affected by this unfortunate tragedy, we must always remember that God is our refuge and strength.

I join the beloved people of The Federal Republic of Nigerians in mourning the lost of its beloved son, President Yar’Adua. I pray and hope that Nigeria, through the leadership of its new president, His Excellency Goodluck Jonathan, will work with all Nigerians to continue to strengthen democracy, the rule of law, unity, and economic development. My prayers also go out to the family of former president Yar’Adua. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
