Rev. Jesse Jackson Lecture Series in UK December 2-5, 2013

Cambridge, Oxford and Middlesex Universities

The civil rights icon, Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr., president and founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, will arrive in London on 1st December 2013 as part of a three university lecture series in the UK. Events will include:

Monday, December 2: Cambridge University, hosted by the Cambridge Union Society, 7:30pm.

Tuesday, December 3: Oxford University, hosted by the Oxford Union, 8:00pm

Wednesday, December 4:  Middlesex University, Hendon Campus, 3:30pm-5:30pm

Reverend Jackson will speak on the impact of globalization, “we have globalized capital, but not human rights, but not labor, women, environmental or children’s rights,” he said.   He will address the debate around immigration both in the U.S. and UK/Europe; foreign policy and the challenges for the civil rights movement in this era.

Reverend Jackson was inducted into the Cambridge Union Society in 2010, and granted an honorary fellowship to Regents College at Oxford University in 2007.  He has received honorary degrees at Edge Hill and DeMontfort Universities, and was most recently in the UK commemorating the 50th anniversary of the famous March on Washington, hosted by Operation Black Vote.  He travelled in 2007 to nine UK cities to launch Equanomics UK and commemorate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Slave Trade Act.  PM Gordon Brown presented Rev. Jackson the Global Diversity Award in recognition of his decade’s long work in the UK (see attached history of Rev. Jackson’s work in the UK and his essays on the March on Washington).
