Rev. Jesse Jackson Reacts to Dan Ryan and Old Navy Shootings

CHICAGO (May 7, 2010)--The escalating violence in the city of Chicago is a painful reminder that we are in a state of emergency. Increased access to guns and the flow of drugs make our streets unsafe. As we enter into the summer, we must continue to focus on jobs, job training, and supervised recreation for our youth. Inner city unemployment rates are nearly triple the national average. Like the plan we had to make sure visitors from around the world would be safe during the 2016 Olympic Games, we must have a plan to keep citizens of Chicago safe. We are not safe until all of us are safe.
