Rev Jackson to Tim Cook and Apple:  create a fairer and more equitable workplace environment for you

November 7, 2014

Dear Mr. Cook,

Following on my letter to you earlier this week, I appeal to you and Apple to create a fairer and more equitable workplace environment for your service workers.

It was brought to my attention that Apple has put their security contract out to bid, potentially opening the door for much-needed improvements to security jobs in the tech industry.  I was surprised to learn Security Industry Specialists (SIS) is a finalist in the bidding process.  Numerous reports indicate that SIS has shown blatant disregard for many of Apple’s security officers. You may be aware of the following:

These questionable practices are entirely inconsistent with Apple’s progressive values, and hurt families in our communities.  As you so eloquently noted in quoting Dr. King, “What are you doing for others” in a simple principle but one difficult to uphold.   We appeal to Apple to follow that principle, and create a better future for security workers by choosing a responsible security contractor that will provide dignified and family-supporting jobs to workers in our community. Tim, I look forward to meeting and spending some time with you in the near future.
