The Rainbow PUSH Coalition Relief Drive

“Keeping Alive Kentucky”

Chicago, IL — Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. is extending the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s (RPC) Eastern Kentucky relief campaign until Saturday, August 20th, where donations can be dropped off Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, at the RPC headquarters, 930 E. 50th St.

Having led humanitarian campaigns all over the world including Haiti, Rwanda, and Katrina, Rev. Jackson said, “Eastern Kentucky needs us now. It’s a template of America that highlights the need to rebuild America. “Appalachia has generational poverty, low to no access to sustainable jobs and economic development. The climate crisis in our nation is exacerbated in eastern Kentucky which has led to the compounded loss of life and property.

“Gov. Andy Beshear must be commended on how he and his team have risen to the occasion having faced a multiplicity of crisis this year and yet he has exhibited exceptional leadership under pressure to stand tall and serve his state. We want to keep hope alive in Kentucky,” said Rev. Jackson.

Bishop Tavis Grant, the national field director for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, is heading up this humanitarian initiative. “We believe our members and partners around the Chicagoland area will respond to this call to action,” Bishop Grant said. “Our members know when Rev. Jackson decides to respond to a challenge of this magnitude we will and must respond.

“Chicago has demonstrated over and over again the ability to reach beyond its borders and to help others. We want eastern Kentucky to know help is on the way from Chicago and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition,” said Bishop Grant.

Rev. Jackson and Bishop Grant are asking the public to donate cases of water, Gatorade, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels; bleach; buckets; mops; push brooms; shovels; rakes; rubber gloves; soap; deodorant; feminine hygiene products; shampoo; toothpaste; toothbrushes; hairbrushes; diapers; baby formula; pet food and plastic totes.
