Rev. Jackson to join Highland Park Mayor, survivors in prayer vigil for slain and wounded

Chicago, IL – Rev. Jesse. L. Jackson, Sr. will be attending a 7 p.m. prayer vigil in Highland Park, IL, Wednesday, July 13th, outside of the City Hall, 1707 Saint John Ave., Highland Park, in commemoration of the seven victims who were slain after a 21-year-old alleged shooter sprayed a crowd celebrating the city’s Fourth of July parade wounding 40 others.

One of the victims, 8-year-old Cooper Roberts who is paralyzed from the waist down, remains hospitalized fighting for his life.

“My heart is heavy tonight as we pray for those innocent people who were victims of gun violence during an annual, peaceful, Fourth of July parade this year,” said Rev. Jackson.

“Please know that you are never alone. We, at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, stand and will fight with you for justice...justice for those who couldn’t escape the riddled bullets of the shooter.”

Rev. Jackson will join Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering at the prayer vigil/candle lighting ceremony along with survivors and supporters in a candle lighting ceremony.
Earlier, mothers, survivors and families from Highland Park and Uvalde, Texas where a shooter killed 19 children and 2 teachers, marched on Capitol Hill demanding passage of a federal ban on assault weapons
