Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.’s Statement on passing of Queen Elizabeth II
Chicago, IL – We join the world in sending our condolences to the British Royal family and the people of Great Britain as they mourn the passing and celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth was a frame of reference during her 70 years of unprecedented leadership as many of us do not know a world without her. She served during the tenure of countless world leaders and oversaw a reconstitution of the Commonwealth. She was a stabilizing force for Great Britain and accepted the changes and challenges the nation faced with dignity.
Queen Elizabeth was not just an historic symbol of strength to England, but also to the world. A wife and mother, she blazed new trails for women in global leadership, assuming authority at a time when women were relegated to subservience.
As we give homage to the Queen, we pray for King Charles III as he assumes the awesome responsibility and mantle as head of state.
God Bless the memory of Queen Elizabeth.
