"63 Years Later: The Mach on Washington"
This Friday marks 63 years since the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, one of the most defining moments in the history of the civil rights movement.
On August 28, 1963, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in our nation’s capital to demand equality, economic opportunity, voting rights and justice. Their collective voice helped move a nation, change public policy and push America closer to fulfilling its promise of freedom and opportunity for all.
As people gather in Washington, D.C. this weekend to commemorate that historic movement, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition will honor its legacy during this week’s Saturday Morning Forum.
We will reflect on the history and lasting impact of the March on Washington, honor the courage of those who marched before us, and examine what their call to action means for this generation.
The issues that brought people to Washington in 1963 — jobs, justice, voting rights, economic opportunity and equality — remain central to our work today. Honoring this history means more than remembering a moment. It means understanding the responsibility we have to continue moving the movement forward.
