Republicans posture as party of working people

George Floyd Justice in Policing Act

George Floyd Justice in Policing Act would set smart national standards for police behavior

Most African Americans want protection from crime. They don’t want to get rid of the police, they want to turn them from a threat to an ally.

Has America come any closer to Dr. King’s dream?

Dr. King would be marching with those who seek to make it easier to vote. He would be appalled by George Floyd’s murder, but not surprise.

Georgia businesses must stand against new state law suppressing the right to vote

This bad law drives a stake into democracy in Georgia. It must be reversed.

The Right To Vote Is Under Siege

The right to vote is under siege

The fundamental right in a democracy — the right to vote — is once more under siege. In state after state, Republican legislators have introduced literally hundreds of bills designed to suppress voting.

Their passion is fueled by Donald Trump’s big lie that the presidential election was “stolen” from him. Their targets are minorities — African Americans, Latinos and Asian Americans, and the young. They call themselves Republicans, but their lineage comes not from Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president, but from Jefferson Davis, the southern Democrat who led the Confederacy in its battle to keep Blacks enslaved.

Take a stand against gun violence terrorizing our streets

Gun violence spiked across the country in 2020, the most violent year in decades. 19,000 were killed in shootings, the highest death toll in 20 years (and that does not include gun suicides). Mass shootings — defined as four or more shot in an incident — also rose drastically to over 600.

Rev. Jesse Jackson takes Covid-19 Vaccine

Scientific community must reach out to African Americans to bolster confidence in vaccine

On Friday, I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. I was honored to be accompanied by Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, the brilliant African-American viral immunologist who is a rock star in the field of immunology science.

From Dr. Corbett’s post at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, she led the team that performed the scientific miracle of developing and testing the Moderna vaccine in record time. Now she is working to overcome the widespread hesitancy in the black community about vaccination. Vaccination is imperative to save lives, particularly for African Americans, disproportionately the greatest victims of the virus.

What Happened On January 6, 2021

By Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.

Be very clear. What happened on January 6, 2021 was an attempted coup d’etat that had an inside and outside dimension and strategy! It was an undemocratic effort by President Donald Trump and over 150 Republicans to reject the popular votes of the American people in the 2020 presidential election and replace them with their own Electoral College Votes. They rejected the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and tried to keep Donald Trump in office for a second term.

Americans, looking for bold leadership, need an aspirational agenda from Joe Biden

As we turn to a new year, the spotlight shines on the new president and the new administration. Even as he assumes center stage in Washington, profound questions remain about Joe Biden’s plans.

His initial appointments have been solid, diverse, experienced and capable, drawn overwhelmingly from the established center of the party.

Georgia and its long history of voter suppression

Now that Donald Trump’s baseless lies about voter fraud have been summarily dismissed by the courts, perhaps some attention can be paid to the true threat to free and fair elections: systemic and massive voter suppression.

Voter suppression, not voter fraud, could have critically important effects in Senate runoff elections in Georgia that will determine which party controls the majority in the U.S. Senate.
